Happily Ever After – The Story of Adeleine

January 4, 2024

Rescue: transitive verb: to free from confinement, danger, or evil : SAVE, DELIVER

Five years ago, a single photo changed the lives of a horse, her little girl – and ME.

In the days leading up to existence of “the picture”, Adeleine was an OTTB, J/C name “Addar”, who found herself at an auction house. At the time I was a naive 100% affected by “Please bail before she goes to slaughter” horse owner. When I saw her photo, I knew I had to save this one! Through fundraising, I was able to have her pulled and quarantined. During her quarantine period, she was shy and nervous, not really wanting to be touched (and I did try very hard to bond!). I got an email from the mother of a young lady who had followed her entire story from her initial listing at the feedlot telling me her daughter was in love with Adeleine also. At this point the coincidences started lining up. This mom had also gotten her horse from the same lot, and quarantined at my same QT facility. Could they just go see her since she knew the barn? Five years ago, I received a second email with a photo attached and I knew in my soul what I was supposed to do. My anxious Adeleine met her little girl, her person. The picture said it all.

Instant love

Five years ago TODAY, Adeleine became a success story when her new family came to get her. Since then I have become friends with her family, following triumphs, and feeling a deep inner peace knowing that she truly was saved and safe forever.
